Another solid winner! A review of Li'l Gotham #17

If you're not reading Li'l Gotham, then by this point you must either A.) Living under that proverbial rock that people who are not creative like referring to (and by people, I mean 'me') or B.) Be a curmudgeon that actually likes the New 52.

As I said elsewhere, San Dustin and San Fridolfs come up with another winner.

I was crying happy tears due to all the cuteness, and the endless amount of bird puns, including when Katana mentions something about a 'dirty bird' in the midst of all the dancing. Their characterization of Helena Bertinelli continues to be spot-on, even with the few lines she had.

But even if her lines were limited, her actions were very Helena-like, including the way she reacts towards Hank at the end of the book when he offers her a [paraphrase] "ride on his hog" (there's a metaphor if there ever was one).

Other than this, it was very nice to see the Birds (Helena, Dinah, Zinda, Barbara) together again, and the homage to not only the Birds of Prey series (in the form of Helena taking on Lady Shiva) but the Batman: Brave and The Bold TV show with their little song number too.

Also, I ship Zinda and Jason and asldkfuoeueoghwogwoe;; at the cuteness of Kate Kane and Colin Wilkes fist-bumping. I couldn't handle all the cuteness.

Speaking of Kate and Colin fist-bumping, it occurred during the same scene where Dick and Barbara were dancing. I thought that scene was great too, as it was a subtle way of reminding us that even if you are in a wheelchair, it's really not an inhibitor and you can do anything you put your mind to.

Overall I'm sobbing and creying at the perfectness and adorableness contained in this issue and am in the process of building a shrine to the folks that make Li'l Gotham. I'm really grateful that San Dustin and San Fridolfs are there to keep our favorite characters' memories alive, not only on panel, but within their fans' hearts and minds.

If you're going to be reading one book from DC, it has to be Li'l Gotham, as this issue is but a microcosm of the quality contained within the series. It's a fun, all ages book, and even if it is one, there is still enough substance and depth for it to contain quality characterization and well-written stories.

To say I highly recommend this is an understatement. This book is just positively wonderful.
